It can seem impossible to find your ideal hair mask when there are so many different possibilities on the market. That’s why we thought it was high time to demystify the purpose, important characteristics and application guidelines of a quality hair mask.  

What is the difference between a hair mask and a conditioner?

At first glance, a hair mask and a conditioner look very similar. However, we can identify one main differentiating element in the formulas of each product. A conditioner is designed primarily to simply detangle and soften the hair in order to make it easier to style. Because of this, it has a much lower concentration of active ingredients that is suitable for its more superficial and temporary role on hair.

A hair mask, on the other hand, is highly concentrated in active ingredients to greatly improve the overall health of the hair. These active ingredients penetrate deep into the hair in order to have a continuous impact and lasting effectiveness. Hair masks have several properties that strengthen the hair to help prevent breakage and increase strength, and they also include nutrients that affect the finish and texture of hair. Our hair mask has three main goals: hydrate, repair, and improve texture of hair. 

So, isn’t it pointless to use both in the same wash?

In our opinion, a hair mask can very well replace a conditioner and even surpass it in terms of effectiveness. You can use the Sans-Façon hair mask directly after your shampoo without applying conditioner first. Your hair will not only be detangled, but also feel even softer, suppler and shinier than it would had you used only conditioner. How many times a week should I use a hair mask?

A hair mask should be used once or twice a week depending on your individual needs. If your hair is very damaged or dry, you may need to increase your usage to three times a week until it shows signs of improvement. Our hair mask can be used in place of a conditioner or as a separate treatment, that is to say, it can be used in the same way as your usual conditioner, or it can be applied and left to soak in for 5 to 10 minutes before being rinsed out.

My hair is dyed, can I use your mask?

The sodium PCA contained in our hair mask is, among other things, responsible for hydrating hair fibers. But it doesn’t only benefit dry and damaged hair. It’s also the ingredient that helps dyed hair hold onto its tint, prolonging your look and adding shine to your coloured locks.
